India's PLI Scheme Pulls API Intermediate Demand Higher
India's Production Linked Incentive scheme for bulk drugs and key starting materials has pushed domestic API manufacturers to backward-integrate into intermediates including benzaldehyde derivatives, rather than import them from China. Companies including Aarti Industries and Divi's Laboratories have added intermediate capacity tied directly to PLI-approved API lines since 2023. That shift is redirecting benzaldehyde offtake toward India-based buyers who want documented, audited supply chains rather than the lowest landed price. The scheme runs through 2029 with disbursements tied to incremental output, keeping the incentive to backward-integrate active for several more years.
